On the evening of 10/22/01, I had to be in Philadelphia and stayed at the Embassy Suites. We always enjoy fine dining and looked to our computer to find a good restaurant in the area. We found a website, (not this one), with area restaurants and patron reviews. Several of the reviews about this restaurant were absolutely terrible, so we planned on avoiding this place in favor of another nearby restaurant with pretty good reviews, but it was closed for kitchen repairs. We asked the parking valet at our hotel to recommend another good restaurant. He sent us to a place named Josephs, about a block away, located in a different hotel. When we walked into the hotel enterance, there were two doors, It appeared as though the right one led to the bar and the left to the dining room, so we went left.
After we were seated and saw the menu, we realized we were in the Peacock. We almost got up and walked out, but the place looked very nice and we decided to give it a chance. What followed turned out to be one of the finest dining experiences we ever had!!
We each happened to order the same meal. We ordered a delicious appetizer of baked mussels, enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, and the most wonderful seafood combination of lobster tail, (small but good), shrimp, (colossal sized!!) and scallops, all done perfectly in a delicious, very light plumb tomato sauce. I highly recommend this dish to anyone who enjoys dining, not just eating!!
We skipped the delicious-looking deserts and had just a so-so cup of capiccino. (probably spelled wrong), but forgave that on the basis that this is a fine restaurant, not a coffee shop.
In spite of what the other reviews I read said, the management of this family run restaurant were very pleasant and friendly.
I strongly recommend this fabulous dining establishment, and will certainly be back if I'm ever back in Philly.
